Colorado Public Television to Debut DIVE!

With In-Studio Guests Dave Murphy and Larry Cooper

Denver (September 16, 2014) – Colorado Public Television (CPT12, Channel 12 PBS) will present the film DIVE! Living Off America’s Waste by Jeremy Seifert, that documents the astounding amount of food that is discarded each day, on Thursday, September 18 at 7 p.m., with in-studio guests Dave Murphy from Food Democracy Now! and Larry Cooper, a Colorado Activist.

Every year in America we throw away 96 billion pounds of food. That's 263 million pounds a day. 11 million pounds an hour. 3,000 pounds a second. Inspired by a curiosity about society's careless habit of sending food straight to landfills, the multi award-winning documentary DIVE! follows filmmaker Jeremy Seifert and friends as they dumpster dive in the back alleys and gated garbage receptacles of Los Angeles' supermarkets. In the process, they salvage thousands of dollars worth of good, edible food – resulting in an eye-opening documentary that is equal parts entertainment, guerrilla journalism and call to action.

As a thank you for supporting CPT12, the station is offering tickets to a VIP reception with filmmaker Jeremy Seifert and a screening of his latest film, GMO OMG, which explores genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and their effects on our health and planet. The screening will take place on Monday, October 27 at 7 p.m. at the Sie Film Center in Denver. The VIP reception will also include Dave Murphy, Larry Cooper, GMO OMG Executive Producer Elizabeth Kucinich, and former congressman and presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich. An audience Q&A session will follow the screening.

DIVE! has garnered critical praise while raising important questions about hunger and waste in society. This is Seifert's first film and has been received warmly by audiences across the country, winning nineteen festivals thus far, including the Boulder International, Sedona International, DC Independent, and the Green Film Festival in Seoul.

“CPT12 presents documentaries and programs that reflect the questions, issues and ideas of grass roots’ communities. DIVE! shares a personal story that touches your mind and your heart.,” said Shari Bernson, Director of Development for Colorado Public Television.
