Colorado Public Television to Air “Dog By Dog” In Time for Holiday Shopping

(Denver, CO) November 9, 2015 – In time for the upcoming holiday shopping season, Colorado Public Television will broadcast “Dog by Dog,” a new documentary that explores ‘puppy mills’ and those who work, one dog at a time, to save the animals suffering in the controversial system. “Dog by Dog” airs on Sunday November 22nd immediately before the holiday season.

“Dog by Dog” brings to light the inhumane practices of puppy mills to produce as many puppies as possible, most of which are sold during the holiday season in the United States. The film shows evidence that puppies that come from puppy mills are mistreated, mishandled, and the mothers of these puppies are treated only as breeding animals, living their lives in small cages or worse.

Some of the facts behind puppy mills are truly disturbing.
  • Nearly every puppy sold online and in pet stores comes from a mother who will spend her entire life in a tiny cage. (Source 2010)
  • 2 to 4 million puppies are born to puppy mills each year in the United States. (Source 2011)
  • 99% of puppies sold in pet stores come from puppy mills.

“It’s our hope that by airing ‘Dog by Dog’ ahead of holiday shopping, we’ll be able to educate prospective puppy buyers about the realities of puppy mills and how puppies get marketed,” said Paula Roth, Director of Corporate Support for Colorado Public Television. “Many well-meaning consumers buy their puppies online but sadly, many of these animals come from puppy mills.”

CPT12 has partnered with 5414 Productions to serve as a measure of hope to those who care for puppies in the United States.
